Is your relationship with ‘IF’ killing your dreams?

If can be a killer to vision & a brake on making a start.

‘IF’ puts conditions around our future & stops us starting the future now.

‘IF’ plays a big role in paralysing our progress.

Very often we are waiting for the perfect circumstances in the future before we get started now:

  • “If I had…I would…”

  • “If I knew…I would…”

  • “If I could do…I would…”

IF can be a disguise for our fear:

  • Fear of failure (trying & failing)

  • Fear of disappointment (hoping for something that doesn’t happen)

  • Fear of success (because then we’d have to keep our success going)

‘IF’ can be an excuse for procrastination & give us permission to do nothing.

If we allow it though, ‘IF’ can be a key to identifying what we need to do something about.

3 steps to turn ‘if’ into action:

1. What is the ‘IF’ telling you you think you need?

  • ‘If’ I had more money I would…

  • ‘If’ I had more time I would…

If it’s more money, how can you do something with what you have now?

What goal can you set to save a bit towards your vision?

If it’s more time, could you carve out a bit somewhere once or twice a week? (Get up earlier/have one night you don’t watch TV/utilise some of your lunch break)

Is there a creative solution that you could try? (Think of it as an experiment that you’ll try for a month-that can be more motivational than committing to a totally new lifestyle straight out!)

2. What would you do if the ‘if’ wasn't there?

  • Is there any percentage of it that you could do now (even if it’s only 5%)?

  • What steps could you take to make that 5% happen?

3. What will you wish you had started now this time next year?

  • What would you be doing differently now if that was the case?

  • What percentage would you have liked to have moved along your dream/vision by by this time next year?

  • What would that practically look like? What weekly/monthly goals could you put in as steps to bring change?
